Safety first (always) for the Irish Fire Service

But don't just take our word for it...

Who we work with is everything to us, our relationships with customers really matter.  We love working with people who think like we do. We want to inspire everyone to see how important the safety of their staff, themselves and anyone around them is and we’re doing a great job.

When it comes to the emergency services, guaranteeing the safety of all equipment and making sure it’s fit for purpose at all times is absolutely crucial.  This is of course true of the fire service, with a need to be able to respond to emergency calls at just a moments notice.  To make sure equipment is safe and ready to go, a thorough and detailed schedule of inspections has to be continuously followed.

At Irish Engineering Services we take risk seriously.  We’re proud to be have been providing the statutory examination of lifting and handling equipment for 25 Fire Service divisions in Ireland since 1st Jan 2019 and starting preparing for this for sometime before.

The challenge

From the very early stages, we made it a priority to fully understand the specific requirements of the Fire Service.  We wanted to be sure that the engineering inspection services we were preparing to deliver would exceed the expectations of our customer, keeping them safe, legally compliant and ready to respond to emergency situations at any time.  On top of this, minimising disruption continues to be a priority.

Our solution

To make sure we understood the operational needs of the Irish Fire Service before we started to deliver our inspection services, we followed a detailed programme of learning ahead of the contract start date. This included visiting an active fire station along with the regional headquarters where we met the team and gained a clear understanding of operational needs and preferred ways of working. In partnership, we were able to complete all relevant paperwork including Risk Assessments, Method Statements and Thorough Examination procedures for the specialist equipment that our Engineer Surveyors would find on site.

Along with this, we completed training sessions for our people and introductory meetings for more than 150 fire officers.  Making sure we always understand the needs of our customers continues to be a priority for our team and the work we put in ahead of delivering of services for the fire service has proved to invaluable.
